Online Safety

Social Media Platforms and Video Games

As part of the Computing curriculum, there has been a lot of work focused on age-appropriate content, including video game age ratings and social media age restrictions. In lessons, we encourage children to remember that social media platforms require you to be aged 13 or older to create an account. They are also taught about the PEGI rating system for video games used here in the UK, and we explain why games and apps are given specific ratings. If you would like to learn more about this, please click here for the PEGI website.

Below, we have compiled a list of guides from the National Online Safety website for you to use. The content covered ranges from social media, to video games and streaming sites.

There is also a section for #WakeUpWednesday which is an initiative created by National Online Safety. They release a brand new guide every Wednesday, providing advice on the latest platforms and online risks that parents and carers need to know about.
